National Education will continue to promote the main aims of NE:
- develop national cohesion
- cultivate instincts for survival
- instill in our students, confidence in our future and the vision of NE; i.e. to foster racial integration and a sense of belonging to Singapore.
The purpose of the Meridian Secondary School National Education Framework is to drive the school towards cultivating the Desired Outcomes of NE at the staff and student levels.
Students will be developed to consciously work towards fostering and maintaining bonds with fellow Singaporeans regardless of their race, language or religion in order to enhance racial integration and harmony in our heterogeneous society. Every student will be more aware of Singapore’s strengths and limitations and to be proactive in enhancing the country’s strength and overcoming its limitations. NE in Meridian Secondary School will also strive to inculcate endearing moral values within each student so that they are able to ascertain what is morally correct and to have the courage to act on it. Lastly, Meridian Secondary also wish to create a community of students that are aware of their role in the environment and how they can contribute positively to preserving the earth.
The above will be achieved through an integrated whole school approach to NE as illustrated below.
All students in Meridian Secondary School will experience a structured NE programme which is delivered through the various Instructional Programme Learning Journeys infused with NE and the 4 Core NE events (i.e. Total Defence Day, International Friendship Day, Racial Harmony Day and National Day), throughout their 4 – 5 years in Meridian.
