Direct School Admission
MERIDIAN SECONDARY SCHOOL DIRECT SCHOOL ADMISSION (DSA)
Introduced in 2004, the Direct School Admission (DSA) scheme provides students with the opportunity to seek admission to a secondary school, based on a diverse range of specific academic and non-academic achievements and talents that they can demonstrate beyond the PSLE.
Meridian Secondary School (MSS) extends a warm invitation to Primary 6 students to apply for direct admission into the school for academic year 2021 before the Secondary One Posting Exercise.
MSS offers DSA in the following areas:
- National Civil Defence Cadet Corps
- Performing Arts – Concert band
- Sports – Badminton (Boys & Girls)
- Sports – Basketball (Boys)
- Sports – Floorball (Boys & Girls)
- Sports – Football (Boys & Girls)
- Sports – Netball (Girls)
- Student Leadership
- Visual Art
If you are interested and would like to join us, you may seek admission through DSA. We will be admitting Secondary One students for 2021 through the MOE DSA-SEC Exercise 2020.
The general criteria for selection are as follows:
- Interest and passion
Applicants should demonstrate a keen interest in and passion for their respective talent areas. A clear and genuine aspiration in a field related to their talent area is an advantage.
- Talent and aptitude
Applicants should demonstrate evidence of talent and/or aptitude in their talent area.
- Conduct and attitude for learning
Applicants should have a positive attitude for learning. Applicants should be able to demonstrate evidence of good conduct in school.
The detailed requirements and criteria for the respective talent areas are given below:

|National Civil Defence Cadet Corps||· Holds a leadership position or role, preferably in a Uniformed Group (UG) in primary school.
· Attain at least a Bronze award in the latest NAPFA test and be medically fit for outdoor activities.
|· Selection interview for shortlisted applicants which includes a situational test.
· Concert Band
|· Strong interest in percussion, woodwind or brass instruments.
· Participation and achievements in SYF presentation and/or other musical performances/competitions.
|· All applicants are required to attend an audition.|
|Student Leadership||· Holds a leadership position or role in the primary school, for example, Class Monitor, Football Captain, Band Major and Science representative for the class.||· Selection interview for shortlisted applicants which includes a situational test.
|Visual Art||· Strong interest in art with portfolio of artworks and/or participation and achievements in art exhibitions/competitions.||· Submit digital portfolio of artworks to Ms Ong Yin Yin at firstname.lastname@example.org by 19 June 2020.
· Do not submit actual artworks. Only digital images will be accepted.
· Selection interview for shortlisted applicants.

|· Participation and achievements in the sport, including zonal, national and/or international level competitions.

Applicants will be informed through email or phone call regarding the outcome of their application. Shortlisted applicants will also be notified of the details of the interview, audition or trial.

|EXERCISE SCHOOL PREFERENCE STAGE
DSA applicants who receive at least one offer to indicate their school preferences online via the DSA-Sec Internet System (DSA-Sec IS) or physically at their primary schools.
|Late Nov 2020||RESULTS RELEASE STAGE
Release of DSA-Sec results together with the PSLE results.
SUBMISSION OF APPLICATIONS
Application for DSA-Sec can be submitted through the online DSA-Sec Portal. The application is free-of-charge and will be open from 5 May 2020 to 2 Jun 2020. For more details, please refer to MOE website: www.moe.gov.sg/dsa-sec
Parents and students are encouraged to choose schools wisely based on the student’s aptitudes and strengths, bearing in mind the schools’ academic and non-academic requirements, and the programmes available to develop the area of talent.
Students who are successfully admitted to the school via DSA are expected to honour their commitment to the school, and participate in the activities related to the talent they are selected from year 1-4.
- Shortlisted applicants will have to bring the following supporting documents listed below (where applicable) for the selection session.
- Documentary proof of non-school activities and achievements.
- Any recommendations or references (e.g. student testimonial).
- For students NOT studying in MOE mainstream primary schools
Students not studying in MOE schools will require to obtain a Registration Number (RGxxxxxxx) at MOE Customer Service Centre (CSC) from 5 May 2020, 9am to 2 Jun 2020, 3pm, before they can apply through the DSA-Sec Portal.
